The current state of handheld VHF/UHF transcievers is stuck in the 1980s with user interfaces even worse than the old flip cell phones. These fail to handle the complexity of repeaters, offset frequency setup, cross band setup, access and squelch tones, and all the rest. These should be easily handled by a real UI that is intuitive and fast and easy. The current state of the art look and feel of HTs has changed little since the 1970s. Why can’t a transceiver be configurable and operable as easily as we do our mobile phones? We deserve better.
